Are oversized bores (going larger than .580") seen very often in repro CW era arms?

I don't know how common they are, but the very first reproduction musket I bought, a Euroarms P53, had a .584 bore. Never could get it to shoot well, so I replaced the barrel with a Whitacre barrel.

I have a Euroarms Enfield Musketoon with a .584 bore, it shoots well with a .582 Hodgedon if I do my part.

It is fairly common. I was told by someone that the tolerences on some of the Italian mfg. will allow a .586 to pass the inspectors.

So do folks with oversized bores generally find oversized molds or go the replacement barrel route?
Was just asking out of curiosity, got to thinking about it because I once had an over sized Zouave.
Now I sometimes shoot a half stock rifle using the RCBS .58-500 that has been altered to cast .586 diameter. The rear two bands get press sized to bore with the front end engraving on the rifling like a maxi-ball. Any way, was wondering.

They do both. They also reline the barrel to a proper size. This route is cheaper than a new barrel.

I have a Navy Arms Type II 1863 Springfield. The bore on this is .580" and shoots .579" bullets.

Guys,I have oversize molds in wadcutter and traditional styles in .585 diameter. It is pretty common that the old muskets are oversize and a lot of the older reproductions are too. Cost is $175 with handles not including shipping. Let me know if you need additional information. George Gompf Tennessee Bullet Molds, LLC tnmolds@gmail.com
