Is a Charleville the same as a US Musket model 1816?? Thanks I have used both Bown Bess and Charleville repos in my Rev. War reenacting and I own a model 1816, (1834 from a gun smith near Frankford Arsenal in Phila. which came with an original browned barrel). If my Charleville came with a browned barrel, except for the French markings, they would be indistinguishable to me.

The Charleville is a 75 cal where the 1816 is 69 cal. They are two completley different weapons.

I thought Charlevilles were .69, while Brown Bess muskets were .75.

The Brown Bess was between .73 and .75 caliber. Charlevilles, which served as the template for the early model US muskets, were .69

The Charleville, general pattern of 1766, was the pattern used for the U.S. Model 1795. The U.S. Model 1816 is much different.
