I have an original 32 pdr which has old concrete in the barrel. I would like to use RoMix Back Set to dissolve it. Can anyone tell me if this works well? I am told it will not affect the metal--true? The 32 pdr weighs 4500# so moving it is an issue--any advice on how to apply it it get the best results??

Not sure what you have to dissolve the concrete.. I worked as an electrician for years, found that working around bricklayers mortar would somehow find its way into our buried conduits, we would pour apple cider vinegar in the conduits and it would dissolve the concrete.. not sure if it wold be too acidic for your cannon it worked for us on many occasions..http://www.n-ssa.org/vbforum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

If the barrel is full of concrete? you could take a hammer-drill with a masonry bit and drill a hole into the center of the plug and pour liquid into the hole...or place plastic over the end of barrel and pour as much as it will hold, let it soak into barrel...

There is an is a substance that brick layer us to dissolve mortar of bricks. I think it is called Mure Acid. You might want to try that.

You are probably thinking of Muriatic Acid, which is hydrochloric acid. Might attack the barrel.

I would not use muriatic acid or anything nearly as caustic for this purpose. I appreciate your comments, but was hoping to hear from someone who has experience with this product (which claims to be acid-free).

I have found some interesting pages through google:

There's even a video.

Yes, that is the advertising which has me inclined to try it, but I was looking for some hands-on experience with it.

I've heard that dynamite works fairly well.

I would contact a cement mixing plant and ask them how they get the cement out of there delivery trucks when the cement hardens in the trucks. It happens some times.

Most of the time someone crawls inside with a jackhammer and goes at it for hours...
Apple cider is acidic and works well to loosen things up.. JMHO
