I m thinking on buying a Maynard carbine and have a couple of questions about it.First I m left handed so with the hammer positioned where it is, is there any problems shooting the gun left handed, and about how many firings on average do you get out of one the full load brass cases before it needs to be replaced.

Shooting a Maynard left-handed shouldn't be a problem as far as the hammer position goes. I have been shooting my original 2nd model Maynard since 1987 and still have about 100 cases that I bought when I got the gun and they work just fine. After using them, I soak them in vinegar for about 10 minutes and that dissolves the powder residue and anything else. Then I rinse them in hot water, and after they dry, I tumble them in a Lyman Turbo Tumbler and they come out like new.

To specifically answer your question, hundreds. I have full load brass casings that I have shot for 15 years. I have about 150, and I have always cleaned them with soap and water, dried them, and then tumbled them clean with corncob media. I had some reduced capacity brass that lasted about ten years (several years with another team member), and then they started to separate at the top of the reduced capacity area. Both are mighty durable. It is easier to use the reduced, as one doesn't have to add corn meal or grits, as well as using less powder. Happy Maynarding!
