This came from an 1864 newspaper article. Was it the same then?

Wouldn't it have been more appropriate for the "handles" to be two .45 Long Colt cartridge cases rather than RIFLE cases!

This is intertesting, but with your reference being out of context it is rather difficult to know much about it. Can you quote directly from the 1864 newspaper article exactly what the reference is and how the term "Corkscrew Colt" is used? That may be of some assistance in determining what they are talking about.
