I have a Potsdam musket for sale. I have used it for several years in competition in the n-ssa, but I am moving on with some other projects, and I need the cash!
I will tell you what I can about the musket. The bore is dark, but not horrendous, no major pitting. It actually shoots pretty darn well! In the pictures I have a photo of the bore, you can judge for yourself. The stock is in decent shape. It has been spliced right underneath the second barrel band. It looks like a very decent splicing job. (I did not do the work) It is very sold for a repaired stock. The very end of the barrel channel had a minor repair also, it is cosmetic, not structural. The bands still reatin thier patina. The barrel is mottled brownish grey. Down by the breech and bolster area, it is black/ mottled grey. It looks like someone had the barrel in a vice at somepoint, but has not damaged the functionality of the barrel. There is a repair on the stock at the back where the tang screw goes also. It looks like it was glued/epoxied and five brass tacks were introduced, it is solid though.
The musket is dated 1829. The lock has a faded mark of I believe "Saarn" (?) on it. The butt plate has multiple regimental marks and numbers. It also is dated 1829. The butt stock has a crown with "FW" underneath.
The lock works like a champ and is unmolested. All the furniture is there EXCEPT for the ramrod. I have a link below to see pictures. If you are interested, the price is $650, this includes shipping. If you want the roundball mould that will be $25 extra. I believe that the mould is a Lee.
The musket shoots VERY well. I take about 50 balls at a time and put them into a plastice butter container and shake them for about 3 minutes to get rid of the sprue and rough up the balls. I then dip them three times in LUBE. The musket likes 76 grains of 2FF Goex. At 25 yds. It is point of aim, at 50 yds, I am at the 12 o'clock of the target.
