Don't get me wrong, I have 3 conical molds that work for my Sharps just fine; but always liking to tinker 'just because' I have to ask... anyone ever try this?

I'm wondering if a round ball perhaps 5/1000 over groove diameter with a good grease cookie over the powder charge might not make a fun 50 yard plinker, and be good on lead consumption. However, I'm just guessing at ball diameter.

Anyone ever try this?

Yes, I tried it with a 50 cal farmingdale rifle. It shot great with a 515 round ball and 35 gr 2f. This was before the cardboard tubes, so I made some cartridges up and was amazed at the small groups. Never shot it in team events and is long gone. Try the round ball, its shoots great and along with Charlies tubes should be alot of fun and save lead.

Ok, I ordered some .550 bullets from Track of the Wolf, closest size they had to my desired size. I'm thinking of a modified paper cartridge with the ends folded over the bullet, grease cookie under that, wax paper buffer under that, then powder. Will see how it goes. If worthwhile I will be needing a .550 mold soon...
