The "Modern Greece" was a Blockade Runner that came to grief in the form of the U.S. Navy while trying to slip into the Confederate port of Wilmington, N.C.

I recall going to Wilmington in the early 1960's. I have memories of visiting a museum and seeing a rack of relic Enfields that had been recovered from the vessel.

A Mr. RWages was kind enough to post this link to a book about the artifacts recovered from the "Modern Greece." Included are not only Enfield Rifles, but Whitworth shells and a variety of other items that were in the ship's cargo. Check it out-pretty interesting:

Southeron Sr.

Sorry I missed this posting.

I have a copy of the publication of which you speak.
These were produced 1977 and sold to help raise monies to pay for the conservation/preservation of the artifacts recovered.
Neat stuff on a whole., However, some information has been shown to be incorrect conclusions form the period of publication. I do not know if these have been corrected within the availabile publication.
I believe copies may be had through the U of NC by inter Library loan.?
I can't send you my copy, but I am willing to copy pages and send to you that through e-mail
