The "Modern Greece" was a Blockade Runner that came to grief in the form of the U.S. Navy while trying to slip into the Confederate port of Wilmington, N.C.
I recall going to Wilmington in the early 1960's. I have memories of visiting a museum and seeing a rack of relic Enfields that had been recovered from the vessel.
A Mr. RWages was kind enough to post this link to a book about the artifacts recovered from the "Modern Greece." Included are not only Enfield Rifles, but Whitworth shells and a variety of other items that were in the ship's cargo. Check it out-pretty interesting:
