I had purchased a new Pedersoli Sharps 59 rifle and then had Charlie Hahn do his mod. Charlies tubes were used they are 1.5 inch. I purchased a bullet mould from George Gompf and went to the range to see how it all worked. The weather was sunny , 61 degrees and no wind. Rifle was hand held on a bench. Distance was 50 yards. Target was life size clay pigeon picture

The bullet is 455 grain pure lead. The lube I used was the same as I use in my musket , Lens lube. The powder was Geox 3F

The first load I fired was 40 grains 3F. 8 shots and velocities as follows

1. 834 2. 833 3. 877 4. 811 5. 884 6. 802 7. 807 8. 790

The next load was 35 grains 3F 7 shots and 4 shots of 60 grains 3F sorry but used same target for both.

35 grain 1. 742 2. 735 3. 741 4. 744 5. 743 6. 748 7. 728

60 grain 1. 980 2. 1011 3. 1015 4. 1021

I fired the 60 grain load into the same target as I expected the point of impact to be different. Impact was about the same. A far right shot just out of picture was a 35 grain called flyer.

Not real scientific but was educational for me. I will try later at 100 yardsl This was with the stock sights and using a 6 oclock hold

Nice grouping, looks like it likes the 40 gr load better.
