How deep does rifling have to be to in a three groove musket barrel for the rifling to do it's job?
Barrels with .004" are not unusual. I have a musket with .003" deep rifling. Anyone have a barrel with less? Smoothbores not counted!

Yeah! I've had that book downloaded in my laptop for years. I'm gonna go thumb through it.

I HAD a gun that had shallower rifling- Euroarms 2 band enfield. Bobby Hoyt deepened it for me a bit and it's now doing much better.

Phil,

This is, indeed a great report! A bit long, and can be quite tiresome to read through, but, really does help explain why the American arms makers choose the direction they took with bullet and rifling development for Military usage.
