I have a model 1853 Sharps Carbine, SN 91xx, that has an 'M' inspection mark stamped in the flat on the barrel near the receiver and just above the stock. This is the same place that I have an inspector's initials stamped on my Model 1863 Sharps Carbine. Is there any significance to the 'M' on the Model 1853 or did all of them have this stamp?
