I would be interested in the Blakeslee box. Will you be at the Eva Tn. shoot?

Yeah this is an original "rescue" Spencer I picked up at a county fair at, where else, Spencer, Iowa in '73.
This gun came with a broken stock liner, no cartridge tube or tube cover, a broken bullet guide with no spring, a hammer with broken or cut off spur, a mutilated operating lever, a totally rusted out barrel, extremely large ding marks on the frame, but otherwise in fine shape. So it was a long term project and started me making the Spencer rimfires using a .22 blank sold by Dixie since '79. It is a sweet gun with the new parts from Dixie, S&S, Lodgewood, Hoyt, etc. Got 85 on the 50 yd last national. The Iredell Blues just started up a repeater team and are letting me shoot with them, so I am FINALLY actually using the loading tube. They are fine fellows.
So thats my other gun PJ. The Spencer and Maynard sit together on the gun rack and smile at each other. The Maynard doesn't mind that the Spencer comes from such dubious antecedents.

Heluvagood rescue story James me boy.http://www.websmileys.com/sm/fingers/fing25.gif It's great to restore to some from of glory an old piece as such. The Maynard sat in good company!

But take me word for it,,,,DON'T EVER,,,,,I mean EVER not watch when ya put yer Maynard back in the safe fer the winter and sit it to close to ah starr.
I made this mistake three years ago and it was halfway through the shootin' season before it would let me hit anything again. I mean I begged & pleaded to no avail. When ya treat ah Maynard this way,,,,,guessin' maybe any gun to ah wintry http://messenger.msn.com/MMM2006-04-19_17.00/Resource/emoticons/bat.gif grave next to the likes of ah starr,,,,I reckon I had it coming to me. http://messenger.msn.com/MMM2006-04-19_17.00/Resource/emoticons/cry_smile.gif

In that "dream" you're having Pat, is the Maynard you see in my future a gift from you? I have never minded new "toys"; I still like to play around in the dirt and mud. I could bury it and use it for practicing with my metal detector. I do appreciate the thought; never one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Take care. Norm.
