In thinning out the toy chest, I am putting up for sale a Ball & Williams ballard which I purchased several years ago, had converted to center fire by Rick Schoenberger of Cincinnati, and found to have good accuracy using a .438 heeled custom bullet that was designed by Fred Lewis and I had worked up in a custom mold made for me by an acquaintance in Colorado. Apart from the shooting aspect, the gun is a bit unique. It has a 24 inch octogonal barrel going into an octogonal receiver top. It appears to be one of the ballards that started life as a civilian rifle, but was tricked out with a replacement military stock and sling swivels and sent off to war in the Kentucky theatre. (See discussion in Dutcher's ballard book on civil war used ballards.) John Holland concurred and approved an SAC card for competition. It is a pretty gun, with good wood to metal fit, and good condition of stock, bore, barrel, spring shell extractor and all other aspects. The gun is offered for $1,400 delivered to the Fort. If you want to try the .438 heel custom bullet mold, that will be another $100 (or you can roll with your choice of alternatives). If you are interested and would like to see some pictures let me know. Please contact me directly at northvajim@aol.com.
