I am looking to buy an 1859 Pedersoli Sharps infantry rifle. I am geting bits and pieces that the "new" ones now currently being manufactured have a different breech block that doesn't require an "O" ring modification. Can anyone confirm this and what opinions there are if the O ring mod is better than the new model ? Thanks for any help you can offer. I found a new in the box in the store for $950 I am pretty sure it is not the "new" model that I have seen for about $400 more.
Thanks for any assistance/advice you can give

Des,

Just from my prespective, $950.00 sound pretty inexpensive price for a Military length Sharps" Rifle". With or without the gas seal alteration.
Check your sourses and make sure this is a Military "Rifle" and a Pedersoli made arm.
Just a thought...

Cabellas has them listed at $999. I just called and confirmed the price. Shipping is $18 to Virginia. Seems like a good deal but am concerned if newer model works better. I guess if the O ring conversion is about $250 it still might be a good deal.

I just received the rifle today via UPS. It is recent manufacture and came with a tool for the breech block and a spare "O" ring. Fit anf finish is very good with a small section on the right side of the butplate that has a 1/16 gap. I will pick up a mold at the Nationals and some of Charlies tubes and see how it shoots when I return home. Any recomendations on rear sight mods would be appreciated

DES....

THANK you ...

I stumbled across your post and immediately went to the Cabelas site and ordered one of these rifles. I have been slobbering over this exact rifle for literally years. What a great deal. $999 and I had 70 dollars of cabelas bucks saved up. So netted out paying 950 shipped.

Can't wait to give it a try at the range.

I am in Virginia Beach, VA and if we can just get the DGIF guys to understand that an 1859 sharps is less powerful than an inline muzzleloader firing 150 grains of pyrodex under a saboted hollowpoint... i will be very happy. Not holding my breath however.

How I want to deer hunt with one of these.

If you stop by Charlies place for tubes, he has a couple of new christmas tree molds that are made to fit his tubes. He can show you a target he shot at 100 with the bullet they make and they are pretty good. I know he has 2 new molds available. Might be just what you need.
