Can someone suggest a load for a Whitneyville Plymouth and a rifled 1842 musket? Would the load be the same for each one or different for each? I have a .685 Rapine mold casting a 455 grain projectile. Thanks for any info. A rifled .69 is something I have never tried

They could like the same charge assuming both bores are .687 or so, but they could differ if you're looking for the tightest group in each. Are the bores original? I use 70gr of GOEX 2F as a hunting load in my '42s, 50 gr. for paper. I have two '42s, one full length and one musketoon length, both relined by Hoyt with .687 bores.

The 50 gr charge is 3F

I have had great success with my 1858 remington maynard conversion using the raphine .685 minie wadcutter and 55gr goex 3f. It will shoot one hole groups at 50yds. I size the bullets to .683 as the Whitacer
Barrel I have on it is .685- G. Pope Hazelwood Vol.

Thanks for the information. The 1842 has a Hoyt reline @ .687. The Whitneyville Plymouth is all original but I do not have the bore size. I am just looking to shoot some paper, perhaps a stake ot two.

I've got a Hoyt-lined Plymouth with a 0.685 bore. I size the Rapine minie to 0.683. With 60gr. of 3F Goex it's right on the money at 50 yards.

Mine is a Hoyt .685. I also size to .683. I shoot 50 grains of Swiss 2f and it shoots one hole at 50 and about 1 3/4" off of a rest at 100. I suspct that Swiss being a hotter powder, even the 2fg is equivalent to 55 or 60 of Goex 3fg.

Jack do you think the bigger bullet will hit more clays, or just scare them into breaking?

That rifled 1842 sitting in the closet for years just kept calling my name. I put 50 rounds through it this weekend and it will be going back into the closet. I'll be sticking with a .58. The smoke and boom did draw a few comments from those .223 shooters. I had my fun. As to breaking clays, I'll go with the scare theory. :)
