N-SSA wise men.
My step daughter bought an 1865 Spencer RIFLE for her son on my advice. I had not seen another example of this piece. s/n in the low 300's, saddle ring, appears to be unfired. I negociated and she paid $2200.00. Subsequent research has indicated this to be a Burnside mfg, Springfield conversion- carbine to rifle. Probably shipped to Europe for the Franco-Prussian war then back to the US as surplus when the war ended in 1871 New in Box.
Did I give her bad advice? What do you believe approx value? We plan to get the 17 old into BP shooting with this with a replacement CF block. Smart / stupid?
Thanks

Sure sounds like a good deal to me. An unfired Civil War-era firearm?

$2200.00 is a good price for a Spencer in the condition you described.

OK on price.

What about resurection as a shooting piece?

S&S sells a centerfire conversion for the Spencer so it can be fired using centerfire cartridges.

I have the Spencer rimfire cases (using a .22 blank for primer) is you want to go that route.
