I have a 45-280-M RCBS mould less than 50 rounds molded with it. No handles. $45 plus shipping.

You can use Lyman 457121 mould with load of 60to 70gr of fffg depending of range , if fouling is excessive , load with a 0.1 inch greased wad on the powder;

Not too bad, but I pulled one round. With out it, the specs would have been a lot nicer... (see the numbers above the picture..)

My aiming mark was a black, 16" square on a white, 4' target frame

no offense but i shoot long range muzzleloader in competition. if i understand your group sizes correctly you are shooting a 3 1/2" group at 100 yrds, thats not very good. you should at least be under 2" at 100 with that rifle. also, you are shooting a 1.3" long bullet that is a bit long for the twist in the volunteer they shoot better with a somewhat lighter 450-475grn bullets.

do you have a platinum lined nipple in your volunteer? if you don't your groups will go to pot really fast as the steel nipple will be different from shot to shot.

are you leaving your ramrod in the gun when you shoot? most people who shoot the volunteers and thier whitworth cousins leave the ramrod out of the gun as it acts like a spring on the barrel when the gun is fired.

your bullet is .451 as cast, are you sizing it down to .450-.448? long range muzzleloader bullets should start easy and be able to be pushed down the barrel with just finger pressure on the ramrod.

once again, no offense meant. i just know from expierience that your rifle should shoot much better.

On Data of robertdeans72 , I read 200M for the range , so a 3.5inchs group is more convenient with this rifle .
Thanks to medic 302 to speak about the nipples ( the bad results come slowly when we keep an old nipple , an platinium or carbide will give excellent result for more a year) .

When you shot with the ramrod , the ramrod try to leave himself the rifle shot after shot .

I size my bullets to .451 in my volunteers ( one is rigby rifled , the other is henry rifled )

for the volunteer

475grn 40-1 alloy
swaged paper patched bullet
1.25 ogive
cupped base
.442" dia unpatched .450" patched diameter 100% cotton onion skin no lubrication
75grn swiss 2F
3/8" felt overpowder wad cut with a lee shaver rotary wad cutter.

MV 1200ish fps SD is usually 6-7 fps.

for the whitworth

same bullet as above only longer and weighs in at 530 grns.
90 grns swiss 1.5F
3/8" felt over powder wad
mv 1280fps.

for both rifles i wipe inbetween shots with 1 damp patch with 5 up and down strokes cleaning to the breach. followed by two dry patches with 5 up and down strokes all the way to the breech and up again to the muzzle.

both rifles are good shooters with the volunteer a better midrange rifle than a long range one.

Just askin on a little help with a 3 bander I made a few years ago used an origianal barrel that was shot out and had it re- done by Bobby Hoyt a turn in 18 is what he said would be good so that is what I have. It is a drop in fit on an origianal stock with all origianal parts with stock sights- I use a 45-70 405 grn bullet in it sized to .451 and made it like a mini with a not so deep cup in the bottom- loads easy and shoots good with a 60grn charge of 3f lube is 50-50 bees wax and lanolin.
