Jim,

You might want to look at George Gompf's wadcutter mould. It is a little like the old Rapine 315, but it is longer and holds more lube. I don't have one, but a team mate gave me some bullets to try. I have not yet tried them. I think they weigh out around 400. My current .58 favorites are the Rapine International at 455 and the Rapine 460 which is pretty close to the old style minie and weighs 460 grains.

Just some thoughts. Ten or more years ago, I was fond of the Lyman 602. I don't know what it weighs, but it is around that. I would weigh one but my mould is out on loan.

my favorite 58 minie is a properly sized rapine international. dont know why this bullet shoots so good. it has a thick skirt, its short and the cavity is shallow. however it has always done a great job in my 58s. its the first mold i reach for when trying out a new 58 musket. 45 grns of 3f seemed to be the sweet spot on the powder in most guns i have tried.

HP,
Are you referring to the Rapine 575455? If so I'll tey some from Pat Kaboskey and have Steve Brooks make a mould.
Yancy, HP thank you 599,999.99 (a million after taxes)!

Jim,

How many do you need? I have a bunch cast up and I could send you some.

I believe they are referring to the wad cutter mold design I make. It is a double cavity captive core mold. My minie mold for the 58 is about 320 grains in the standard thin skirt. However, I can adjust the skirt a little heavier and I can lengthen the skirt and get in the weight range you want. I can provide it in any diameter you need. If you are interested, shoot me an e-mail.

Thanks

A fellow skirmisher gave me some Hodgdons that are in that weight range IIRC; didn't do bad, but they weren't my favorite for my gun either. I've got about 20 or 30 left, if you want to try some shoot me an email at jonklei@gmail.com, I'd be happy to pass it forward.

EDIT: I just weighed one, they are about 375 gr. lubed, so perhaps a bit lighter than you were looking for- though the offer stands if you want them.

Thanks all. Ordered a custom Rapine International mould from Brooks today.
