Having an Armisport .69 musket I'm thinking about giving the original style military minie a try. The Lyman 685069 duplicates some recovered (battlefield relic) minies so I'm thinking about giving that old monster a try. To do that I'd have to get the as-cast diameter of the mold altered to fit my barrel. Seems like a reasonable thing to do if one is going to shoot the original service load.

Has anyone been down that path yet?

You need to size the cast bullets to be about .001-002" smaller than your bore.

check the bore on your gun. mine was 690 and it shot a 687 bullet ok. that was the biggest mould that i found. anything larger will be a custom mould

My bore diameter was checked with three point bore mikes as 0.696".
Erik at www.hollowpointmold.com has done a few jobs for me, can precision grind the bands to cast at exactly whatever diameter is wanted. Was wondering if anyone has gone that route.

Does anyone shoot the Lyman mold?

I shot the lyman bullet with 57 grns. 2f goex. I bought the gun to shoot 200 yards at steel. It did well at 50 and 100 yards, almost a larger ragged hole. was not tight enough at 200 for me. The bullet being modified to a larger diameter might have fixed the problem. I sold the gun last year. Good luck.
