I have a Pietta copy of the 1858 Revolver whose barrel catch (to hold up the rammer) is worn so that it allows the rammer to drop down on recoil and tie up the cylinder. My problem is that the catch seems to be press fit or perhaps soldered into the bottom of the barrel. Other examples I have seen have the catch held in place by a dovetail arrangement. My question is, if my approved revolver is made the former way, can I remain legal for my Pietta Remington if I repair it using the latter style barrel catch from someone else's copy? A little help here, please!

Hi Charlie -

Yes, you may change how the catch is mounted, and when you do just briong it into Small Arms and we will give you a SAC Individual Approval card for the change from the way the arm was originally given Production Approval.

Hi Charlie,

I have an approved process where as part of my accruing of the 1858, I add a dovetail catch to the barrel. I can do the repair if you like.
