Hi Troops:

I have some Maynard cartridges that have a few years on them and the holes in the base seem to have gotten larger. Is this a normal pattern of wear and is there a good way to make the hole smaller again??

It is normal. I have some that look like stars and powder will fall through them. I tested them and see no difference in accuracy.

I've been shooting my Maynard since 1987 and many of the cases were purchased new when I got the carbine. The flash hole in many of those cases have grown slightly in size since I began shooting them. Nothing to be worried about. If you are concerned about powder coming out of the flash hole, do what I do, I put the loaded cartridges nose down in my storage boxes then do the same when I transfer them to my cartridge box.
