For trade or for sale. What I have is an original Sharps Borchardt Model 1878 45 caliber rifle with a 30 inch heavy barrel. This is a 45-70. This rifle was made circa 1878 - 1881, This is the Sporting Model Rifle produced by Sharps and are somewhat rare and hard to find. It has the standard safety system and it is fully functional. The barrel blueing is very good, the barrel rifling is very good, the reciever area is good with wear but no pitting or rust, front and rear sights are intact however the folding ladder part is missing on the rear sight, forearm is in good shape, the stock has a chip out of it on the right side behind the top of the reciever and the butt plate is intact. This one on the left side of the reciever above the sharps info is not marked with the Bourhardt line. This has three lines. Sharps info line, serial number line, and pat. date line. The word Old Reliable is in script and not enclosed with a box or rectangle. .

I tried to actually get a documented letter pertaining to this gun but the serial number research showed no records were available. From my understanding about 1 out of every 3 can be documented due to incomplete records. I also had this gun inspected by someone who knows older rifles quite well. He felt the metal on this gun and barrel bore was in extremely good condition and as noted in the post the wood chip in the stock needs to be repaired. One of the larger auction companies have given me their auction value estimate and what I would sell this for is way below their auction estimate. I would rather sell this to a private individual rather than sending it through the auction system and I would accept $2250.00 or best offer.

Note: Also reproduction rear sight elevators are available and I have the info.

What you looking to trade for? I normally shoot single shot BCR and muzzleloaders. I have a variety of modern handguns, mainly S&W double action revolvers (.357 and .44 mag) some 1911s (Kimber and Springfield) and a German made Walther PPK as well as some rifles/shotguns. I might be interested in a straight sale for cash or combination, depending upon the price you want for the Sharps. I plan on being at the Nationals on Saturday morning. Here is my cell number if you are interested in talking: 703-346-7910

I have updated some info in the original post and responded to all inquiries. I would like to see this go to a good home and if there are members that have any ideas as to what other venues I should use please pm me with the info. One of the larger auction companies have given me their auction value estimate and it is way above what I am asking for it. I would rather sell this to a private individual rather than sending it through the auction system. Thanks eveyone.
