I'm looking for a musket nipple wrench. Anyone have a recommendation? I'm looking for durability, a good fit on stainess or ampco musket nipples, and, here's the catch, able to fit into the recess of a Sharps carbine block. I've tried a few, either had problems with fitting the Sharps, too loose where they round the edges, or wear on the wrench from frozen cones. Thanks in advance

A lot of folks swear by 1/4 in sockets. Theye can be machined (ground) to fit. Some folks use them backwards. Put the drive on the nipple and an allen key in the socket.;)

X2 on the 1/4 socket, especially if you can find a 12 point one.

Lou, the problem with your post is that it is both too simple and too inexpensive, lol. I used a small extension and gripped the male end with the handle from a tap set. Removed without difficulty three original nipples that were frozen on some barrel projects. It did work on the sharps, but it could only grip the top of the shoulders when nearly fully seated. I'm going to look for a thinner walled socket, but in the interim is there a ready made, single piece, closed square, thin walled wrench available, perhaps one of the sutlers at the nationals? Something compact, you know, so it can be easily lost

Zimmerman makes a hefty, narrow profile, large-handled nipple wrench that is really great.

Take the breech block out of the gun, use the operating lever as a lever and use any wrench you want.

I agree with Greg. I use an open end 1/4 inch wrench.

Open end wrench wont fit into the Sharps cone recess. It will just barely grab the top of the shoulder, but will round this easily if the cone is seized. I'm looking for something that has as much surface area contact as possible with the cone, preferably all four sides.

I have 8 point sockets modified that should work, Stop by my booth at the National, and bring your gun.
