I am helping an elderly friend sell down a large collection of many makes and models of guns. I have a Burnside Spencer that I have the info on but the E. Allen rifle is stumping me. It is in great shape, bright bore, cal. is unknow to me but the cartridge would be shot and "large" ( mikes out at .363, best I can tell ). The rear sight is missing the elevation slider. Serial # is 2658. I'll include pics.

It's an Allen, "Drop Breech" rimfire. 1860-sometime in the 1870's, various calibers, .22-.44, some converted to centerfire. See Fladerman's, page 70-71. Possibly .35 Allen rf, (.342 bore dia.) but more likely one of the .38 rf cartridges, (.376 bore dia) from the measurement you gave.

I think it is a .38. I had no way to slug the barrel so my measurement was iffy at best. Do you think there is a market for this rifle ? As I said I am trying to establish a value to sell it out of a collection belonging to a friend. I am batting zero on this one, can't find one selling or sold recently to try and figure a value.
