I think you only need to go thru an FFL if you are shipping it. This is a long arm - if you sell it hand to hand, no FFL, or paperwork, required. I think.

I checked on-line and discovered that the Tanker Garand was never issued by the US Military and the name is more of a marketing term for a shortened Garand made by various gunsmiths and armories in recent years. Any Garand in 308 has been converted from 3006. Who made your gun and who did the conversion to 308?

Thanks,

Jim

jim2622 is correct. If he wants to sell to say, a Va resident, he must go through a Va FFL. This is Federal law.

In most states, say Alabama, an Alabama resident can sell to another Alabama resident without any paperwork. I am not familar with NY law; it may be different.

ALL transfers of firearms between two states MUST go through an FFL. That's Fed Law.

I think what is described in the law (my interpretation) is that 'between two states' means the firearm crosses state lines - via courier - it is not illegal for me to transport my own long arm and sell it one on one. You cannot ship via any courier (UPS/FedEx/USPS/other) direct to an individual unless the firearm predates 1894 (?) and uses ammunition no longer commercially available. I am citing from memory - so may be wrong - but that is my recollection.

No, you cannot do that. It is a violation of the Gun Control Act of 1968.

It was made by Springfield Armory INC. in IL. not the federal arsenal.
