Is the Pedersoli Mauser 1857 rifle musket an approved arm? I've seen them around quite a bit, and I know they're used by international muzzleloading team, but I don't see them on the Approved Arms list.

Thanks,

Mike

They are a beautiful musket, but are unfortunately not an N-SSA approved arm.

Thanks, Glenn. I just acquired one fairly reasonably. I'll probably pass it on to get out from under it.

I should keep the Approved Arms list bookmarked on my phone.

Has it been submitted to the Small Arms committee?

It May Be legal if approved as an individual arm even if MFG. has not submitted it for approval as a production arm.

From Dixie Gun Works catalog (I know not a definitive source, I know):

"In 1862, Marcellus Hartley, in Europe purchasing guns for the U.S. Government, bought 2,000 of these arms from B.M. Tambeur Freres of Leige, Belgium."

If it can get individual approval, I'll go that route. I'll send an email to John Holland post his reply, if he doesn't see this post and respond.

The nomenclature of some of these various European arms are what is confusing for me.

Is the 1857 Mauser Rifle Musket the same thing as the "1857- Wurttemburgischen", listed in Pedersoli catalog? (Good grief, I hope I spelled that correctly!)

That's the one.

Mike,

Thanks.

Were these impoted... I have no knowledge of that aspect. (Not an area of intrest for me.)
Best I can suggest is to check with John Holland first. Before you buy one.... See what he can tell you

The topic of the 1857 Muaser Rifle has been covered quite a few times in the past, but, perhaps it on the "Old Bulletin Board". Sharon Cunningham, before she retired from of Dixie Gun Works, and I worked together for quite some time in an attempt to verify this arm as having been imported during the Civil War. Unfortunately, we were not successful. That is why this very fine arm is not on the N-SSA's Production Approved Arms List.

Sincerely,
John Holland
Chairman, Small Arms Committee

Thanks for the clarification, John. I did a search before I posted, but nothing came up regarding the status of the arm. It's unfortunate that we periodically lose the collected knowledge of the BB.
