I finally found a 1lb can of Goex FFg. (Yes, I still have the KIK, but turns out it was Fg). I'm using a little brass tube with another internal tube and it has graduated marks on the outside for measuring up the powder prior to loading Charlies tubes. My guidance (both in the owners manual and others experience) is to use between 60-80g of powder. I load 60 into the brass measurement device and dump it into the tube. It overflowed. What am I missing here, folks??? The brass tube was bought from Sportsmans Whse last week, in the BP section. Charlie's tubes are 1.5". My rifle is an IAB Sharps 1863 .54.

Thanks,
Jim in AK

Jim,

I have an original '63 New Model Sharps Carbine that Charlie Hahn worked on in .54 Cal, and he recommended between 32 - 37 Grs. of either Goex or Swiss ffg. I am presently using 35 Grs. of Swiss ffg. with good results.

Herb,
Thanks! Charlie responded to my email for assist with "45g" so I got my bullets lubes, cases built, and we're going shooting tomorrow!

As mentioned in the previous post, crappy old Goex didn't go bang so I found a new tin of KIK 2f. Since it's new, I'm hoping it'll do the job.

Back to ground zero!

Results to follow. I'll try a few at 35g and a few at 45g.

See ya!
