R S LAWRENCE PAT
April 12th 1859

No patent number on the firearm. Also, this may be the patent markings for the pellet cutoff sytem only, as opposed to the entire pellet primer system. The original system may have been patented by Sharps under the 1848 or 1852 Patents, was used on earlier rifles before they went to the Maynard system for government contracts.

The Patent Number will be between 22,477, the first number issued in 1859, and 26,642, the first number issued in 1860.

There are actually "three" Patent date that maybe found on the New Model 1859 Sharps Rifles and Carbines.
First is high on the lock plate behind the hammer, this is the Sharps patent info; "C Sharps' Pat./Oct. 5th 1852." in two lines.
Below this and also to the rear of the hammer will be found; "R. S. Lawrence' Pat/April 12th 1859" in two lines.
Then on the rear sight on will find; "R. S. Lawrence/Pateneted Feb15th 1859" in two lines.
I really hope this helps to answer the original question,
Blair
