Both of my original Parker Hales (2 band and 3 band) have everything you need to know about the correct bullet, load, etc. stamped under the barrel.

Try that and you might be amazed at how well it shoots.

You need to mic' the bore and use bullets 1-1.5 thousandths smaller. Then try different powder loads. Hope this helps

I have tried four different bullets bought two different sizing dies that were recommended , just can't get it right. I have tried charges from 30 to 43 grains. I am really sick of playing around. I'm going to buy a different type of rifle and start over if I can sell this.

Stu,

Are you using very soft lead to cast you bullets?

Do your trigger and lock operate smoothly/freely?

Are your screws tight but not overly so?

Have you checked the bedding of barrel to stock or had someone do it for you, especially in the breech area? One easy check is to take the barrel bands off and then tighten down the tang screw and see if the front of the barrel lifts. You can use paper (grocery sack paper) to temporarily adjust the bedding.

What kind of bullet lube are you using?

I was using a Hodgdon .577, soft lead, different lubs including Crisco. I called Pat Kaboskey inWI, he sent me three different bullets, all lubed (MCM) including Rapine 57455, Lyman 572213AV and Rapine 575460, Just couldn't get a good grouping. Certainly not good enough to hit clays at 50 yards. So now I've got less then 8 weeks before our first skirmish in NC. I'm just plain fed up. It may be me, but with my Enfield musket, I'm dead on with a very tight grouping. So I don't know. I'm pretty sure I'm doing everything correctly, but like I said, it's ready to go with the fishes. Thanks for the advice.

Stu,
It sounds like the bullets are undersized. I shoot a Parker-Hale carbine, and a two band Prker-Hale and in both I shoot the Hogdon also, I cast at .580 and size to .577
This bullet also has the larger cone, so the skirts are thinner. I also am shooting 46 grains of 3F. It sound like your problem may be small bullet with too small of a charge. Just a thought...

OK, I've still got around 8 rounds of one type Rapine, and maybe 40 of the others. I'll hit the range again, use a bigger charge, and try one last time. This really is a nice gun, but if it won't run for me, "Move over gold fish, here it comes if not sold"

Here is what I have.
Rapine 577455 at 472 GN
Rapine 575460 at 468 GN
Lyman 577213AV at 528 GN
All measure .580
I have been shooting as I said Hodgdon at .577 at 410GN with 43 gn of fff
I've tried starting at 35 to 43 GN nothing worked. I pulled a plug, measured between .595 and .598 I know it seems big (?), made two plugs down about 2 inches into the barrel, both measured about the same. Seems to me the .577 was bouncing around in there. After 15 rounds the bullets would just go in as easy as when I started. Made the plug after I got home from the range. Will the Rapines or Lyman work with more of a charge, how much?

Something sounds off, to me. The Cast plugs measures .595? Assuming that you are measuring the bottom of the grooves to get that size, and assuming the the grooves are 3-5 thousands deep, you are looking at a bore (land to land) between .580-.584

First question: Did the .580's go done the bore with no problem?

I believe you need reslug the bore. It sounds like undersize bullets. Still have plenty of time.
