Does a 36 cal sizing die for Maynard brass exist? I have 2-36 cal Maynards and when I shoot the cartridges in one of them, they expand just enough that they won't fit in the other barrel. I solved this same problem in a 50 cal Maynard by threading a 50 cal Maynard loading tool to fit a RCBS loader and I have a 36 cal loading tool, but the brass fits too loosely and therefore won't size. Any suggestions?

The .36 Maynard was listed by the company as the .35-30 and was a popular cartridge even into the self contained cartridge era for the Maynard. CH4D does make a neck sizer for the .35-30 but it is pricey at $106.00 . You could try to find a machinist to drill a .397 hole in either 3/4 inch thick brass or mild steel. This was the neck size of the original .35-30 cartridge. I used a similar block when resizing my Gallagher brass. Most reloading outfits like Lyman or Lee charge a specialty die price for obsolete cartridge sizes. Don't know of a modern cartridge that has a .397 neck diameter. Does the brass fit one barrel and not the other? I would mic the barrels at the breech end to see if there is a difference. Good luck. See you at the fort.

You could get a gunsmith to polish the chamber to match the larger one maybe or I spoke to C&H Tool and die (Dave) he said they could make me a sizing die for a .50 Maynard 2nd model, 740/397-3237.

The following is speculation, but I have a .50 cal Maynard (Romano) with a very tight chamber. I was told that a .50-70 sizing die would work fine to size normally used in various .50 Maynards so it would work in any of them. This strategy worked so well for me that I would be tempted to look for a die for a standard modern cartridge that would do the same thing for me... maybe the body portion of a .348 Win for instance?

Don't rule out Lee precision. I have used them to make special sizing dies for me and their price was very reasonable for what I wanted. Give them a call and get a quote.
