I have an 1863 Remington Zouave repro that belonged to my father Don Goetz who was a founding member of the Fourth Michigan Infantry. I was interested in finding out how old the gun is because it has the number 219 stamped into all of the parts. While examining the original barrell, I found that the gun was mfg. in 1962. But I am unable to identify the maker. The marks on the barrell show that it is italian made, but no maker's name is stamped into the barrell. There is however, a mark that I have been unable to identify and could use your help. it is a bow and arrow. Anybody know this mark? any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Donna,

The bow and arrow is the marking of Antonio Zoli. Looking at the serial # your probably right about the age. I have one # 17xxx that was purchased in the mid seventies.

The markings, and their arrangement, are virtually identical to my circa 1964 Hy-Hunter. The serial numbers are even close. Which begs the question:

If Hy-hunters came with Zoli barrels, why did HY-hunters get banned because of bad barrel design?

Errrrr,,,, from what I was told the Hy-Hunters were banned as a
production gun as their method of barrel making included brazing the breach section to the barrel. They did change that at some point as I had one I walked thru the SAC and got a card for it back in like 85' me thinks.

My Zoli was made in 1963 and is #744
