Hi all,
just writing to aska couple of question concerning the the 1842 short rifled-musket.

Did these see use in the Civil War?

What are the Armi Sport reproductions like to shoot with a minie loading in terms of recoil and accuracy as compared to the 58 cal rifles and rifle-muskets?

Thanks,
Damon

"...terms of recoil..."

A .69 Minie weighs about 50% more than a .58 Minie and you use a bigger powder charge. .69 muskets weigh about the same as .58 muskets.

It's GOTTA kick more.

I checked the books I have and cannot find any US Model 1842 Short rifle usage. I also am not aware of any cut down Rifles in US 1842. Smoothbore yes, but not rifles.

There were some Model 1842 Brit guns imported but I think these were smoothbore. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

If you use the Rapine 500gr. semi wadcutter the recoil is about the same as a .58 with the same charge. I shoot it out of my 3 band and 26 inch "sort of a Macon" with 70 gr of 2F without undue recoil. With Rapine out of business, the problem would be finding a mould. Armi bores tend to run oversize so you'd probably need a .690 mould rather than a .685.
