According to the Approved Arms list, these are the approved 1860 revolvers:

Colt Model 1860 Army (includes fluted cylinder) (.44 cal.) Makers:

1) Centennial Arms Co. (Belgium)
2) Replica Arms Co. (Uberti)
3) Colt Firearms Division (Type 3)
4) Western Arms (Type 3)
5) Connecticut Valley Arms (CVA)
6) Colt Signature Series (Chattahoochee Black Powder Supply Co.)

Some of these people are no longer in business.

Is the Pietta 1860 Army an allowed weapon?

What about Cimarron?

Steve,

It is important to note the differance between the full fluted cylinder of the early M-1860 Colt type revolver and the standard rebated type cylinders of this same model. (this is the standard production model)
My question to you is, Which of the two types are you making referance to?
To my knowledge, all of the rebated .44 cal. 1860 types are approved.
It is the M-1851 types that are made up in .44 cal. that are not approaved. ???

The rules I quoted seem to cover all approved 1860 model revolvers, fluted or not.

I am not talking about 1851's in .44 caliber.

The only common production manufacturer that I see in the rules is Uberti?

Steve,

Please, my apologies. Forget any suggestions and/or other information I have offered. The mistake is mine!

So it appears that Uberti is the only N-SSA approved manufacturer for 1860 Army pistols, correct?

I have looked up the suppliers listed in the N-SSA approved arms list and found the following:

1) Centennial Arms Co. (Belgium) http://www.centennialclassicarms.com/index.htm

I can not find any handguns on their web site at all.

2) Replica Arms Co. (Uberti)

I can find no trace of Replica Arms Co. on the web. Obviously Uberti is well known.

3) Colt Firearms Division (Type 3)

I assume this is speaking about the 3rd Generation Colt 1860 Army. They are no longer in production. They can still be had, but will set you back a fair bit.

4) Western Arms (Type 3)

I cannot find this company on the web.

5) Connecticut Valley Arms (CVA) http://www.cva.com/

CVA no longer sells Civil War era firearms.

6) Colt Signature Series (Chattahoochee Black Powder Supply Co.)

I cannot find this company on the web.

---------------------

As far as I can tell, there are 3 manufacturers of reproduction 1860 Army revolvers:

Cimarron http://www.cimarron-firearms.com/
Uberti http://www.uberti.com/
Pietta http://www.pietta.us/products/index.html

But only Uberti is mentioned in the N-SSA Approved Arms listing.

So I'm assuming that if I want to shoot an 1860 Army, Uberti is the only approved arm. Is this correct?

IIRC, Cimarron imports Uberti revolvers. Any revolver marked with Uberti markings should be approved. Anything else you should be able to get a SAC individual approval for, if it is reasonably close to the original configuration.

The Centennial revolvers were made in Belgium back in the early 1960's. This was just when the replica firearms industry in the area in and around Brescia, Italy was getting started good. I think (but am not sure) that Val Forgett of Navy Arms bought out Centennial decades ago.

Thanks for the info, all. Looks like Uberti is the way to go for an 1860 Army.
