Will Sanders, the 9 Year Old Son of Kirk Sanders, the Commander of the 24th Georgia took a deer with his Dad's Smith Carbine on the family farm here in Middle-Georgia last week.
The deer was shot at a range of 30 yards. Perfect heart shot. The deer went down immediately.
Will Sanders won a 1st Place Team Medal at this past Spring National in the BB Gun Matches.
Needless to say, Will is planning on joining the 24th Georgia when he turns 15.
His Dad wondered if he waited until Will was too old before beginning to teach him to shoot. Dad waited until Will was 3 years old. Apparently, that did not hurt Will's marksmanship abilities as he can bust hanging clay pigeons offhand with a .577 P-H Enfield Artillery Carbine on a regular basis.
