The cannon with the brass plate on top of the breech is an early experimental breechloader of the "eccentric breechblock" type. I took this photo in April 1982, but I didn't take notes on what the plate had engraved on it. Does anyone know, or can you find out? I need to know what's on that plate plus any other information I can get regarding this cannon, for a research project.

A friend who has looked at the Point's cannon records says it is listed as a 2.5-inch Lyman Haskell accelerating gun, patented 1857, blew up during tests.

It doesn't look much like the patent drawing, so I'll be interested to see what the brass plate says whenever someone can get to it.
