New-bee from Ky here...Greetings. I'm shooting a 1853 Enfield by Armi and have a Lee "original" 500gr. minie mold that's "ok". Just wonder about removing the center pin and reworking it (shortening) to make the mold conform more closely to the Lyman .577 Parker Hale mold with the short skirt. That would increase the weight and change the center of gravity back a little. Just wondering if anyone has done it or has an opinion on it. Looks like a simple job with either a lathe or good drill press....of course it would be risking 20 bills if things went awry...

Go for it you want to try. Lee sells parts for their molds as well as all their equipment and they have great customer service so you can restore it to its original configuration if it doesn't work. See this page: http://leeprecision.com/xcart/MOLD-575-500-M-PARTS/

Most people who modify mini molds that I know usually make a new base plug that is longer and of a larger diameter to produce an thinner more easily expanded skirt. This also moves the center of gravity toward the nose which makes the mini easier to stabalize specially with a slow twist.
