Picked up nice repro Smith this weekend at Wilson Creek . It has a .508 bore and would like to know a good mould
for this. My supply of Smith/Maynards at .517 are way too big. Any advice on a good load would also be much
appreciated.

Thanks for any help--Steve W.

Steve,

I would think you could go with a .515 diameter mold and try that. If it needs to be sized smaller than that you will not have to remove too much material. As for a load, you could try 25 grains of 3f for starters. I shoot an original Smith that shoots really well with 28 grains of 3f and no filler with a 350 grain bullet.

Buffalo Arms Company lists two "Grease Grooves" style bullet moulds in .510 diameter. You have your choice of weights: either 300 Grains or 350 Grains.

When you get to the Buffalo website go to their own "Buffalo" made moulds. These moulds are made by lathe boring which produces moulds that can make very accurate bullets.

These bullets are designed for the 50-95 Winchester but I see no reason they won't work in your Smith Carbine.

Steve, I also have a Smith with a 508 bore. I shoot a Lyman 51213? bullet. I tried sizing it down, but if you use black tubes,in hot weather the bullet falls out. It shoot good with the 512 bullet, 28gr. 3f. BWHard
