the question below about the CVA .44 Navy repro brings up a question. Somewhere many years ago I heard that the British based company that Colt was involved with to produce Colt products in the U.K. (London Armory??) made a .44 version of the Navy.
The story was that many officers had bought the .36 Navy and during the Sepoy Rebellion in India found it lacked stopping power so the British based company came out with a .44 version. Is there any basis for this story??

Very simply stated....No, there isn't any basis to it.

Over the years the Italians have come out with several different "Fantasy" .44 "Navy Colt" revolvers. In other words, a "replica" of an original Colt Navy that NEVER existed.
