I've got a Connecticut Valley Arms (CVA), Pietta-made 1851 "Navy" pistol, with brass frame. However, it is .44 caliber, which I think is historically incorrect for this model of pistol.

Is it OK to use this in N-SSA competition?

No. See http://www.n-ssa.org/NATIONAL/SAC_Jun2011.pdf for the approved arms list.
