What are you trying to ID?? Are you trying to narrow it down to a specific unit, or do you just want to know which model it is?

I would like to find a specific unit. I believe it is a late prodution second model.

Springfield Research Service (if I recall the name properly) used to maintain a website where you could punch in a serial number and they would give you the closest serial numbers they had records of.

You could Google them, but their format has changed now and I think you would have to contact them directly and pay a fee fkor any information they provided.

What's the serial number? If'n it's passed 12,000 odds are it never left the arsenal anyway. They were still delivering carbines months after the War of Northern Aggression had ended.
