I am considering changing the rear sight on a Mississippi rifle to a Drake conversion.
Which rear sight should I use? Is the location of sight the same as the dovetail on an original barrel?
Thanks!

Jim -
Use the 1858 Rifle Musket rear sight base, mounted in the original Miss. dovetail, and file off the exposed corners of the dovetail on the sight base so it looks like it isn't dovetailed. For the front sight use a rifle musket block/blade sight base. This was to double as mount for the socket bayonet. Here is a picture of the sight (maybe if it works)

If the bayonet was not attached you could see the remains of the original brass sight where it was removed flush with the barrel surface.
