I have the drop in model sold by Midway, although mine was marketed under a different name. Here's the link - http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?p ... ber=292272 (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=292272)

There's another unit on the market called the Kirst Konverter (http://kirstkonverter.com/index.html)that appears to be a closer version of what was done back in "the day". Of course, not everyone had the scratch to dash right out and buy a Peacemaker.

One thing I noticed right away with mine. My 1858 is sighted in for a skirmish load with a round ball. Putting a 45 Colt cartridge load in a conversion cylinder will drastically change the point of impact for your gun, usually it will shoot a lot higher. I did load a .454 round ball into a 45 Colt case with the same powder charge I use in the cap and ball cylinder and it shot to about the same point of aim.

Good luck.

It is advised NOT to shoot conversion cylinders in brass framed revolvers, just in case you have a brass framed model.
Their is lots of info on coversion cyls over on cascity.com, under the Remington and Open Top forums. Those guys shoot them all the time, in cowboy action shooting.

Good luck
