Hello Enfield experts,

I have an Armi Sport 3-Band Enfield and I want to defarb it myself. I'm not a reenactor but I am very interested in civil war firearms history.
Now I've got several great parts like lockplate, swivels, brassparts and an original hammer but the most ovious part, the stock, is not that easy to replace.
I found a relatively cheap replacement stock at International Military Antiques and I'd like to hear your opinion of it, as far as one can tell from the pictures.
Here is the link:
http://www.ima-usa.com/militaria/gun-pa ... stock.html (http://www.ima-usa.com/militaria/gun-parts/stocks/british-p-1853-three-band-enfield-type-rifle-u-s-civil-war-new-made-replacement-stock.html)
I know this is the stock of a Type II Enfield, not the type III that I want to recreate.
Is it ever possible to fit the barrel and the bands of an Armi Sport Enfield to such a "slim", original stock?
Are the holes of the barrel band springs the only thing that distinguishes it from the shape of the Type III stock?
Are there any historical inaccuracies you notice?
Thank you very much for your help

I would advise going with a Dunlap stock instead.

Okay,
I suppose the wood quality makes the price difference between dunlap and IMA?

It would be great if I could get a defarbed Armi Sport stock from Blockaderunner but they did't respond to my request :(

Try calling them. I've had great results ordering items from BR.

As you note, the stock you linked to is for the Type II which has inlets for the barrel band springs. You can't add back wood, so if you are trying to defarb an Armisport into a Type III, that is a problem.

Dunlap is said to make excellent stocks:

In any case you will be doing fitting between your wood and the metal parts.

Todd Watts over at BR is supposed to be a master at this stuff.

Go with the Dunlap stock. I have built a half-dozen rifles using their stocks.

The BIG advantage Dunlap has is that their stocks are inletted for the lock, while the IMA is NOT. Unless you have built several rifles in the past and are an experienced lock inletter, I would definitely recommend the Dunlap stock.

Thank you all, you convinced me.

I'll call BlockadeRunner, if they can't do it, I'll get a dunlap stock.
