There are custom double cavity wadcutters about to be available before Nationals. I got mine today from the maker and it is very well done. I shot the prototype and it shot a very tight group for me, it features a wider grease groove on the bottom which worked great. Contact me via e-mail for contact info if you like, remember these are high quality double cavity molds and the maker is a skirmisher and long time shooter.

Hope this helps;

Lots of questions and I have sent individual replies out to several people. I have just started this business and it is best just to publish it here for all to see.

I designed the mold around the complaints and suggestions of many good shooters who know what they wanted in a mold.

1. They are made from aluminum and I can supply them with or without handles.
2. The molds are a 2-cavety mold with captive core pin, very similar to the 315-wadcutter we commonly use in the N-SSA.
3. It weighs out at the 315-320 gr range depending on how hot you get the mold, the purity of the lead and the actual mold diameter.
4. I am providing them in a .575, .577, .580 and .585 diameter.
5. I can make them in steel but I have not determined the cost for this yet and do not have any steel molds at this time. There is considerable added time to cut steel instead of aluminum.
6. My design can be provided in 54 as well as 58 cal and I intend on taking orders and getting feedback from shooters in Winchester in a couple of weeks.
7. It has an extra thick sprue plate for stability in cutting off the excess lead at casting.
8. I have built in a standard grease groove on the top and a wider groove on the bottom to hold plenty of lube.
9. There is a small flat on the tip of the core pin. I found that a flat top on the core pin produces a better casting with less bubbles and cavities at the apex of the core pin.
10. I will be offering them for sale at $175 each, including handles and $150 without handles, plus shipping.
11. I will bring all I have left to Winchester on the 17th of the month. If you are going to Virginia I think arrangements can be made on a place to meet if people are interested, probably our camp area.

I strongly recommend that for best accuracy the projectile should be cast oversize and sized down to fit the bore but have selected the diameters to offer considering many will not wish to size the bullets. I can make any diameter on a custom basis but the machinist like to run a minimum of 5 on a setup. Single molds can be quoted in specific sizes but I have to run a total minimum of 20 molds of various sizes at a time. I presently have (5)-.575, (6)-.577, (3)-.580 and (2)-.585 molds available.

I hope to have enough interest to run a second group after I return from the Nationals. This first run seems to be selling well.

I will be making a traditional style heavy mini based on the original drawings next. It will have the flat tip produced by a nose pour mold but otherwise should be dimensionally the same as the original US issue of the 1860’s. Sizers and peep sight drill guides are also in the works. Hope this covers all the questions. If you have any others, let me know.

Thanks for your interest,
