View Full Version : Wanted: Stock repair or replacement for 1842 Springfield

Looking for someone that can repair a 1842 fulllength stock that has been heavily sanded, varnished, very dry, and missing wood behind the lock plate and between the tang and lockplate. Just looking for a servicable solid shooting stock.
If this is cost prohibitive, looking for a replacement, can be a cutdown in front of the rear band, cosmetic problems ok, but solid for a shooter.
Barring either of these, considering getting a dunlop replacement at the Spring Nationals, unless someone has a 1842 replacement stock for sale (project they didn't get to for instance).
Any suggestions (especially individuals that do stock restorations), opinions, past experience, and stocks for sale appreciated.

One final note, only metal missing is one trigger bow nut. Is this the same size as the 1861?

Thanks,
Jon Faucher 4th Va. Inf.
