There it was...a pretty nice 45-70 whose stock was cut off fwd. of the rear band spring. The bore was mint, the lock was good and before I knew what I was doing...it was mine!
So now, I need all the hardware, from the flat-tipped rod, nose cap & screw, rod retainer, forward barrel band w/swivels and a forward stock. Also need a Buffington sight. Anyone have any of this stuff for sale or swap?
There used to be a nice fellow; Ed Knisely, who specialized in these parts, but my contact info. for him is no longer valid. Thanks for your replies! Jerry Sciortino

He's still around. I bought an 1816 mainspring from him 2 weeks ago in Allentown. Try edknisley@aol.com

Forgot to mention that if you can't get in touch with Ed, try www.trapdoorcollector.com (http://www.trapdoorcollector.com). or S&S firearms.

You can call Red Daugherty, a.k.a The Trap Door Guy, at 260-833-2315.

He's the guy that got me started building my carbine and he has boxes of parts. Be prepared to chat a while.
He knows trap door Springfields forward and backwards, chapter and verse. You'll learn what you don't know and
more besides.
