I came across a listing today(216709956) that I found rather interesting at best . Dubious also comes to mind. Perhaps some of you have also seen it. I'm curious as to whether or not there
is anyone else who has formed the same opinion of this piece as I have. Initially, looking at the starting price, description, and the pics in their original size, I was inclined to keep an eye on the bidding. However, after blowing up the pics, I immediately changed my mind. To my eye at least, there seems to be a considerable amount of epoxy filler behind the breech, tang, and toe of the buttplate. This leads me to believe that this piece may have been stocked, or perhaps restocked by someone else, and judging by the exterior pitting near the muzzle, not all that well taken care of. I honestly believe it's hardly worth the starting price. Am I making too much of this?

Dubious? Well...gosh...the seller supplies 153 photographs of the rifle and a 1,200 word description. He sure doesn't appear to be trying to hide anything :)

I wish I could help, but I would think an email to the seller expressing your concerns would be a good step. Normally the type of response (or lack of response) from a seller will decide for me if I want to bid or not.

I see the areas of "filler" you are asking about. I have no idea if that's normal or not but either way, in my opinion, it's a beautiful rifle.

Actually, I wasn't inferring that the seller was hiding anything, since he did provide all the photos, and provided a detailed description of the rifle. Rather, I was questioning the information provided to him on who built the rifle. I know that given the price Dixie got for it back then I certainly would have had questions about it . Be that as it may, I probably should have been more explicit about the direction of my questions.

Maybe ask Tom Nixon directly? Even though Tom's home and cell number have been posted on this board in the past few months I don't like to post other people's personal numbers. However, if you do a search of "Tom Nixon" in the "Wanted/For Sale Forum" you will have his contact info.
