I recently acquired an RCBS 500M Minie mold and would like to try it in my Zoli Zouave. Has anyone used this minie and what are your comments on it? What powder charges work best with this bullet? How does the bullet perform at 100 yards? Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have been using it for almost 30 years. I used it unsized in my Zoli Zouave and size it to .576 for my 2 Band Springfield. Yes, this mold casts larger than .575. Teammates have the same mold in .582

It is a very stable bullet

I shot it and it did very well in a Bill Large barrel at 100 yards. I shot it at 200 yards in competition and it did very well, but I had to use a lot of 3f powder to make up for the blunt nose at 200 yards.

I think RCBS molds are the best you can buy except for custom made molds.

In the article I wrote about casting bullets, I said that the sprue cutters were too thin, the holes in the sprue cutters too small, the dowel pins too small, and in some molds there was no set screw for the sprue cutter screw.

RCBS molds had none of those problems then. However I bought a Lyman 4 cavity mold recently, and all those problems have been eliminated in that mold. I think they may have a lot of competition lately from custom mold makers.

I'm shooting 50 gr FF in the Zouave and it does very good.

As with others, I shoot in in a few guns and size it to 575. 576 and 577 in another.
