Does anyone know where I can find a correct hammer for an 1861 H & P 1816. Mine is the rifled configuration for the State of New Jersey. It came with a hammer for a Remington Maynard conversion. From what I can tell, they are very similar but the H and P hammer is recessed for the nipple where the Remington Maynard is flat. It does not need to be particularly minty. Mine is a nice gun but it is a skirmisher.

Thanks!

Yancey -

I would check with S&S. I think they may have had some of the New Jersey alteration hammers mixed in with the Remington tape conversion hammers in one of their bins at the Fall Nationals. Just an additional note to help you, the New Jersey hammers don't have any checkering on the spur....well, not in my experience anyway.

Yancy,

I may have one of the recess-faced hammers but I think the ones I have are all blued? Let me verify that tonight and see what all I have.

Richard,

I'm not worried about the bluing as long as it fits the H and P! Thanks so much.

Yancey,

Evidently, I must have sold the lot... as nary can find even one of the hammers. Found the tumblers, scears, scear springs, mainsprings, etc., but cannot find a single hammer. Last time I can recall seeing them was at a show in 2006. Hate to think they may have been left at that show? But check with S&S as I didn't quite buy them out of their R-M parts (just most of what they had) :)
