Did the U.S and/or the Confederate Army ever do a documented study on the accuracy of the 12 pdr. Napoleon. I'd even settle for any modern documentation.

Good starting point.

Dear Phil,
Thank you so very much for the info in this original artillery manual, it was fascinating and I intend to read the entire thing word for word. I was suprised however that I could find no info on the accuracy of the 12 pdr, such as "servicable accuracy should be shooting a 5 shot group into a 10 ft. diameter circle at 600 yds". I might have missed it but I didn't find any such mention at all. Another thing that amazed me was that he talked about the round ball rolling and bouncing off the inside of the bore. I see how it's possible for the round to shift from one side to the other since there was not a tight fit, but since as far as I know all rounds were strapped with two iron straps to a hardwood sabot I don't how there could be any rolling or a spin being imparted to the ball whatsoever. Maybe the sabot was fragmented by the initial blast but he doesn't mention that either. But still for general knowledge it was awesome. I know I'm no genius. Let me know if there's something I missed!

Best regards,
Eric
